Gabon President Urges Muslim Media To Promote Islamic Values
The President of the Republic of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba, urged the Muslim world to be first in line to promote the values of Islam, helping correct misconceptions and tackle Islamic-related issues such as Islamophobia.
He also called Muslims to actively condemn acts of terrorism and extremism.
At a speech at the 9th session of the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers (ICIM), Ondimba stated,
“Here, the challenge for all of us is to develop a comprehensive strategy of communication and information to fight against terrorism, extremism, fundamentalism, in short, all these radical ideologies. We must establish a strategy based on coordination… and say point blank, true Islam has nothing to do with all these evils.”
A proactive step is being called for, not only by the President of the Republic of Gabon, but even by King Abdullah, the ruler of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who has previously called for a dialogue between religions and cultures.
Many Muslims and Islamic organisations and groups around the world are calling for a more proactive stance within the media, and see it as an opportunity to raise their voices and concerns.
